‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 spoilers: Show boss on Caroline’s many tasks
With the final season of “The Vampire Diaries” comes many challenges, and one of the largest ones at the moment appears to be trying to figure out how every character gets at least a fitting conclusion. You already have to realize that you’re not going to make everyone happy.
Take, for example, with the character of Caroline. There are people out there who want to see her with Stefan; meanwhile, there are others out there still holding a candle for Klaus. Like with any other ‘ship, there is no right answer, but the writers have to tell the story that they feel is most appropriate. Also, there are other things going on for someone like Caroline beyond just romance, including her job, being a good mother, and keeping a good relationship with Alaric. These are all struggles that executive producer Julie Plec maps out in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“Caroline is trying, in her wonderfully Caroline way, to be all things to all people … She’s trying to be the perfect mother, the perfect baby mama to her recently parted fiancé, she has a new job, she’s back in Mystic Falls. She’s working at the local news station in Mystic Falls as a behind the scenes journalist this time. She’s also trying to juggle a very important relationship to Stefan against the crisis of the moment, which is that Stefan’s brother is MIA. She’s multi-tasking in her own fierce, fabulous way. Lots big shifts and moves coming up for her this year.”
For us, the best ending Caroline can have is one where she is content to live out the next phase of her extremely long life in peace. It’s hard to say that anything lasts forever, but we want her to have at least temporary happiness. That gives us at least something to hope for in the midst of all the chaos that this show has wrought.
