‘Criminal Minds’ season 12: Thomas Gibson fired following on-set incident
Based on the latest headlines surrounding Thomas Gibson, his absence from “Criminal Minds” is going to be a far more permanent one than first thought.
Following an on-set incident with a writer-producer that just hit headlines over the past two days, Deadline reports that Gibson has been fired from the show, and there will be a plan put in place to write the Hotch character out. This incident marked the second alleged one between the actor and a member of the show’s staff, and that was enough for the series and ABC Studios to decide to make this cut.
In a statement, Gibson had the following to say in response to the decision:
“I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last twelve years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”
It is easy to call this an emotional departure for the show, and even for us as a viewer. In regards to his talent, there is no question that Gibson is a tremendous actor. He brought a lot to Hotch over the years, and was one of the engines that made “Criminal Minds” goes. However, at the same time this is not a move that anyone made lightly, and crews, writers, and directors are the engines behind the scenes. Showing respect for them at all times is essential, and no one should be seen as above them.
