‘Agent Carter’ season 3: Marvel TV boss on trying to turn movie dreams into reality
There is no third season of “Agent Carter” on the horizon, but many people involved in the series have already made one thing rather clear: They would like to have more of the show in some form. While Hayley Atwell may have a rather busy plate at the moment thanks to her role in ABC’s “Conviction,” she has said that she would love to revisit the character as a TV movie or some other format.
Of course, there’s still one enormous problem, and that is finding a venue for the series. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and others passed on picking up the series for now, and while Marvel may have deep pockets, they’re not so much in the business of spending money on something that they can’t get a return on.
With that in mind, TV boss Jeph Loeb explained the following (per TVLine) about the logistical challenges ahead:
“[Marvel Studios schedulers] get to say, ‘In 2019, were going to bring you Captain Marvel,’ and when it shows up in a movie theater, [no theater owner] is going, ‘Whoa, hold on a second — we didn’t say that that was OK!’ … What Marvel Television does every day is it connects with our partners — ABC, FX, Fox, Netflix, Freeform — and they tell us when they would like it. So the short answer is: Sure, if someone wants to call and say, ‘We want a two-hour Agent Carter for May 2017,’ boom. We’ll put together the greatest Agent Carter movie we can.”
Maybe it is impossible since we’re talking about different divisions, but we would not be opposed to there being a two-hour movie starring Atwell as Peggy that made it to the big screen. Say you made it for a relatively small feature budget that wasn’t that much more than the TV show; don’t you think that enough diehard fans of the character would see it to recoup what Marvel put into it? Just food for thought.
