NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 11 promo: Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys take center stage
“The Voice” recently released a teaser for season 11 that featured Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as “Men in Black” style characters, and at the time the main question on our mind was what in the world the show was trying to do. Given that Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys are the two newcomers to the program, wouldn’t you want to promote them to the best of your ability?
Well, this is what NBC is doing in the latest teaser for the show. It’s basically a follow-up to the original clip, and now this time it’s clear where the theme is going. Miley and Alicia show up as aliens, and they claim that they did not come in piece. Then, you see the signature chairs, and it’s clear that the competition is ON.
Yes, this is one of the cheesiest ways possible that a show could promote a season, but we’re relatively fine with it in this instance since “The Voice” at its core is a show that should be fun and not take itself altogether seriously. Sure, there is a serious winner crowned at the end of it, but it has always prioritized itself as an entertainment show rather than one about finding a legitimate star. That’s why so much of the emphasis is put on the coaches, and they are the reason why so many people watch.
Given that these upcoming seasons are the first ones since the end of “American Idol,” we do wonder if that talent pool will migrate over here — or if this show will feel more pressure to find someone big. We suppose we’ll learn the answer in due time.
