‘UnREAL’ season 3: Premiere date speculation, hopes for Lifetime series
Tonight on Lifetime, this current season of “UnREAL” (and concurrently, this current season of show-within-a-show “Everlasting”) are going to be coming to a close. However, this does not mean that either is shutting down for good.
Earlier this season, the network confirmed that the series starring Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer is coming back for a third season, which probably serves as a nice bit of validation given that the ratings are not exactly great for the show. They’ve been down for the most part since season 1, and critically the reaction has been a little bit more split.
So when can you expect the series back? The assumption here would be to bring it back next June, provided that the writers have more stories to tell and the cast continues to remain available for filming in the spring.
While we assume that our expectations and hopes for a third season will waver based on what we see tonight, for now it feels like the #1 thing that we need is some sort of shakeup to the formula, whether that be an “Everlasting” season fronted by a woman as opposed to a man (why not bring back Chantal from this season in that role?), a completely different reality show, or something where Quinn and Rachel don’t have the same exact relationship.
By one token, it’s great that the series has taken such enormous risks with the storytelling. The downside of that is that it is rather hard to imagine where the show goes after a story revolving around Mary jumping off of the roof and the Suitor’s cousin getting shot at by the police.
