‘Devious Maids’ season 5: Renewal odds and hopes for Lifetime series

Tonight, “Devious Maids” season 4 is coming to a close on Lifetime with an episode that could end up resolving several different plots, whether it be Evelyn’s marital status or also what exactly happened to Peri … or at least we hope. There are several different things that we could expect to see over the course of the hour, and this show does have a tendency to surprise us!

Before we do get around to tonight’s episode airing, though, we want to spend a minute discussing instead the long-term future of the series beyond this summer. As of right now, the network has not made a firm decision on the future. While the ratings here are better than an already-renewed series in “UnREAL,” the big difference is that the latter show has a lot of critical acclaim plus award recognition and plenty of press behind it. “Devious Maids” is a lot of fun, but still somewhat under-the-radar.

Given that Lifetime is not exactly in the business of having a huge slate of scripted programming right now, we do worry that this could be an easier show to cut out of the schedule. Yet, we want to believe that the network will give us at least one more year to wrap up the stories. There is no doubt that the ratings have declined, but even with that, a final season could be something the network could promote up as a big event. We personally feel like anytime you keep a show for longer than two or three seasons, you owe at least a little something to the viewers for sticking around.
