‘Empire’ season 3 spoilers: Mariah Carey confirmed (finally) to return
It feels like it was forever ago that there was first conversation that Mariah Carey would be coming to “Empire” for a guest spot. With that, it’s easy to say that we are finally happy to hear that the news is confirmed.
While at the TCA Summer Press Tour today, Fox announced that the singing icon (who has her own reality series coming up on E! later this year) will be appearing on the third season in an episode slated to air on Wednesday, October 5. Her character’s name is Kitty, and she is a musical icon who will turn up and work with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on a new track.
Sure, the idea of getting a living legend on this show is exciting, especially if it is in a role that will allow her to use her singing voice. Yet, there are still matters that do concern us about this gig upon first glance.
- Didn’t we already have Boo Boo Kitty on the show? Don’t we need someone with a different name now? (Then again, maybe Anika is dead after having that scary fall in the finale.)
- This does feel like an obvious case of stunt casting, even if it is not. Unless Carey’s role really turns out to be necessarily for the show, we could get somewhat frustrated since this is the sort of thing that we want to see the series move a little bit away from.
New episodes of the show will begin later this fall; stay tuned, as we’ll have some further news all about it soon!
