‘Empire’ season 3 premiere: What should happen
The third season of “Empire” is going to be returning to Fox on Wednesday, September 21, and if you think that this is a show that will wait much time addressing everything that happened in season 2, you may not know it particularly well! More than likely, this is a show that is going to travel 100 miles per hour as it often was, delivering big twists and giving you temporary hope that this family can come together … only for it to come crashing down later.
In the end, destruction is the M.O. of the entire Lyon clan, and we have a feeling that it’s going to continue. It’s all but guaranteed when you are staring in the face a major death after what happened with Anika and Rhonda.
What happened – After a surprise wedding and then the big reveal that she was responsible for the incident on the balcony, Anika found herself the target of an attack from Rhonda. We don’t quite know who will live or die there, but it should be interesting to find out. Also, we learned about Lucious’ half-brother, Jamal managed to survive despite being shot by Freda (who was attempting to kill Lucious), and Andre apparently got ordained! Okay, maybe the latter point was not as important as the others.
What should happen – In the premiere, obviously we need to learn who is alive, but beyond that it would be rather nice to see some sort of passage of time for people to get their lives together. It’d be interesting to us to have someone finally get a measure of distance from the family, just to see that there could be a better way. Specifically, we’re thinking about someone like an Andre or a Hakeem, given that they’ve been given plenty of motivations to sneak off. From here, see what happens when you start to pull them back in. Being within the world of Empire Entertainment feels like a vicious cycle where even you are out, you get pulled back in. That could be played and shown even further.
