Season 13 of “Grey’s Anatomy” is going to be here before you know it, and with that there are going to be opportunities aplenty to see the growth and development of many different characters. At present, Meredith and Alex are two that we’re the most curious about moving forward. Are there people out there who remain active ‘shippers of the two to get together? Absolutely, and to a certain extent, we do understand the popularity of them given that so many people do love and appreciate what they bring to the table as friends.
Ultimately, though, we feel like they’re going to likely remain just that. If that is the case, how do you make their friendship better? How do you have them move forward and overcome their issues? In this edition of our TV Friendships series, we’re going to do our part to figure that out.
Where they left off – At the end of season 12, there was still some underlying tension between Meredith and Alex thanks to everything with Jo, and Meredith was still struggling to distance herself from the personal intimacy that was there in their friendship. However, at the same time the two found reasons to get closer to other people — though not always in positive ways. Alex, for example, got physical with Andrew when he thought he was getting close to Jo. Meanwhile, Meredith and Riggs slept together, but at the same time Meredith’s sister Maggie has revealed to be harboring some feelings of her own.
Where they could go from here – For these two, we’d like to see them in a place where they can prioritize things in their lives, and just have a little more time to focus on what they want. They need a little bit of distance, and they probably just also need a few good things to happen to them. While we know that this is a show frequently marked by terrible things happening to people, that’s not always the case all the time. We’re a little more removed from Meredith’s devastation and Alex’s proposal, so maybe this is the time where they can relax.
