Rio Olympics 2016: Gisele Bündchen appears during Opening Ceremony – ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ segment

Rio -Of course, there were many visually stunning moments during the first half-hour of the Rio Olympics Opening Cermeony, but we suppose for North American viewers, there were two things in particular that stood out at around the half-hour mark of the ceremony:

1. The performance of “The Girl from Ipanema,” arguably one of the most famous songs in the entire world. You would be hard-pressed to not find a South American who had little knowledge of the song.

2. The presence of one Gisele Bündchen, arguably in turn the most famous model in the known world. She made an appearance in this song, honoring her own national heritage. She had already retired from walking the runway as a model, so this was an especially significant appearance from her.

Before the ceremony, Gisele did speak to People Magazine, and admitted in the process that she was harboring quite a few nerves associated with going out there and doing something that was so significant to her history and heritage:

“This is for sure the longest runway I have ever walked in my life and by far with the most amount of people watching, so it is a little nerve-wracking I must say … This is a very special moment for my country and I am humbled that they invited me to be a part of such a special celebration.”

Of course, in addition to being a model, Gisele has become one of the most powerful business titans within the fashion and beauty industry.
