‘Agent Carter’ season 3: Hayley Atwell on what could have been
The third season of “Agent Carter” is mere dust in the wind at this point. ABC has already made the decision to not bring the show back, and of course that disappointed many fans looking for an eleventh-hour miracle. It’s a show that had a small but mighty following, and many of them were willing to pay into a streaming service in order to keep watching. Unfortunately, that just turned out to not come to fruition as Netflix opted against trying to acquire the property.
What is interesting in the first place about the idea of a season 3 is that had it happened, we’re not sure where star Hayley Atwell would have had the time in the first place. She had already boarded a new ABC drama in “Conviction,” and provided that this show is successful, there would not be a lot of time. However, there were reports that she would find a way to make that work, and speaking (per TVLine) while at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, she elaborated on that subject with the following message:
“I think they would have figured something out, in terms of making an [‘Agent Carter’] special, or waiting until we finished this season [of Conviction] and then doing something.”
Perhaps the biggest reason we’re not as depressed over the end of this series as we are that of many others is that Peggy still has a role within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there could be opportunities for her down the road to revisit the role in some medium. Given that Marvel knows the character’s popularity, it would be foolish to not consider a return appearance somewhere down the line.
