Wednesday night’s new episode of “Big Brother 18” proved itself to be at times entertaining … and then also infuriating.
If we wanted to watch a bunch of people interested in fate casually dating each other, we’d check out “Famously Single” or “Bachelor in Paradise.” This show in theory is supposed to be about strategy, and we have officially hit critical mass with the showmances. In particular, the Zakiyah – Paulie saga is infuriating because we thought of her to be an excellent player going into the season, someone who knew the game and would be willing to play it.
This is all a casting issue, and for the most part we blame CBS for it given that the same folks who cast this show do the Canadian version, and it has been pretty solid through the past several seasons. The lack of people with different relationship statuses have turned this into couples’ therapy.
There was also some gameplay dispersed here and there through this episode, albeit of the not-shocking-at-all variety. Somehow, Paul and Paulie’s plan to nominate him to win the Veto worked, and the latter got his way as the backdoor-Da’Vonne plan came to fruition. She’s on the block with a good shot of going home, and this is part of why we are so depressed given that she is one of the best sources of entertainment that we have left at this point.
The remainder of your enjoyment of this episode varies depending of what you like from this show. There was very little of substance; heck, we even relied on Nicole dreaming on past players for entertainment! We wish there was more going on with this season, but let’s hope for an entertaining eviction show come Thursday. Grade: C.
