‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Why is Coulson no longer the Director?

Coulson -When the fourth season of “Agents of SHIELD” premieres on ABC, it will be doing so with Phil Coulson not in the position of Director. That’s a bummer in so many ways since we’ve gotten used to seeing him there, but at the same exact time there is a specific reason why.

The network released an official synopsis for the season today, and one of the reasons why Jason O’Mara (“Vegas”) is stepping into that position is because Coulson is presumed to be dead by most of the world. SHIELD now has some sort of legitimacy again, and as a result of that the group needs a leader who can be present and out in front for everyone to see.

With that being said, that does not mean as though he is completely mission in action. As one portion of the synopsis reveals, he is going to be working with another team member in order to find Inhumans, and in particular Daisy following the events of what happened to Hive and Lincoln:

“Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack (Henry Simmons), and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of Enhanced people, aka Inhumans. They have been trying to track down and capture Daisy (Chloe Bennet), aka Quake, who has gone rogue in an attempt to atone for sins from the past. But with the world believing that Daisy is a dangerous outlaw who has taken down banks and bridges, the new Director has no qualms about taking her down for good.”

In the end, a complicated moral struggle could be present this season, as Coulson’s personal views will not align fully with that of his boss.
