‘Supergirl’ season 2 will feature Calista Flockhart, but not as series regular

Cat Grant -

The latest update is a case of good news and bad news for “Supergirl” fans. While you will continue to see Calista Flockhart pop up here and there on the CBS series as the Cat Grant character, here’s the bad news: She will not be a series regular.

Per a report from TVLine, the actress will make her first appearance of the season during the show’s premiere, and will recur from there the remainder of the season. It was long believed that the move to Vancouver who keep the Los Angeles-based Flockhart from taking a permanent gig, and that seems to be the case. We’re not sure what the arrangement entails, such as her going up, filming a block of episodes, and then leaving, but we are happy to continue to see her around in some capacity.

In a statement, show executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say about retaining Calista’s services:

Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant … We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”

We find ourselves at more of a legitimate crossroads when it comes to this casting than we imagined that we would be. Earlier on in the season, we weren’t the biggest Cat fan since she felt way too much like a Meryl Streep – “The Devil Wears Prada” clone. However, over time some more of her redeeming qualities came through, and we started to enjoy the relationship she built with Kara. We also like that she was at one point on to the fact that Kara was really Supergirl, even if she was confused out of it.

The new season of “Supergirl” is going to repeat its season 1 episodes starting on The CW tonight. If you want to read up about that, you can do so just by heading over to the link here!
