‘The Last Ship’ renewed by TNT for season 4

Last Ship -

Fans of Eric Dane, assemble and celebrate! TNT is not making you wait until the end of the summer to learn the fate of “The Last Ship.”

While at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour earlier this week, the network officially confirmed that a fourth season of the series would be coming our way. There will be at least thirteen more episodes of the series beyond its current run this summer, and when you think for a minute about everywhere the series has traveled so far (including halfway around the world), who knows precisely where we could be going next?

While the ratings for season 3 so far this season have been down in the live+same day data, there have been a few extenuating circumstances that could play a role in that. For one, the show had more competition than this summer than last, and it is airing in the midst of a summer dominated for the most part by such things as Olympics hype and the Presidential election … which is dramatic enough for a television series in its own right. (We figure HBO will be making that about as quickly as they made “Game Change.)

For the time being, the show’s future beyond season 4 is unclear, so we’re just going to kick back, enjoy the ride, and be grateful that we’ve made it as far as we have so far. After all, there’s not really any better way to go about watching a show that always has a little bit of danger around it, both in terms of its story and also its stability on the network.
