‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Jason O’Mara set to be new Director

Agents of SHIELD -

There’s no longer any need for a mystery regarding the identity of the Director on “Agents of SHIELD” this season.

Jason O’Mara (“Vegas,” “The Good Wife”) has been officially brought on board as the new man in charge, and given that we’re talking about a new face here, there is certainly quite an air of mystery regarding what he is like, how he feels about Coulson and company, and what his primary motivation is. What we’re trying to say here is that this should be a pretty great time getting to know him better.

In a statement regarding the casting, Marvel’s TV head Jeph Loeb lauded the new addition:

“Bringing Jason into the mix as the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency … Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

O’Mara’s casting is one of many interesting new additions we’ve heard about regarding this season. The other one that is particularly noteworthy is Gabriel Luna, who is playing the new incarnation of Ghost Rider from the comics (as opposed to the one played by Nicolas Cage in the movies). New episodes will pick up this fall, and given where the show ended things with the jump forward following the deaths of Ward / Hive and Lincoln, they’ve certainly given themselves a whole lot of flexibility to do a variety of different things.
