‘Supergirl’ video: Melissa Benoist promotes season 1’s CW debut
Did you miss some of “Supergirl” season 1 when it aired on CBS this past year? Well, The CW has an interesting marketing strategy for you to check it out.
Starting on Monday, the network is going to be re-airing the entirety of season 1 in two-hour blocks every week, and it is a good way to have the entire season in the can before the show premieres later this year. For the network, this is an interesting opportunity to see how it fares with the desired target audience tuning in; while its ratings were okay on CBS for at least most of the season, it was never the perfect demo for it over there, and it didn’t quite mesh with all of its programming.
While at the upfronts earlier this season, CW programming head Mark Pedowitz said that he expects “Supergirl” to be a top-tier hit for the network, and this is a testing ground of that.
The video below is all about the show’s new home, and the repeats from season 1 airing. There’s also a small appearance from star Melissa Benoist in here to help create some further buzz. They don’t have any new footage to share (season 2 just started filming over the past several days), so this is really all that they can do.
For those wondering, Benoist’s portion of the video was filmed while at San Diego Comic-Con, if the throngs of people in the background didn’t give it away. She’s wearing the same outfit that you can see in many other Comic-Con interviews.
