‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: How Felicity will be coping with Havenrock tragedy

Arrow -We’ve spent a good deal of time discussing “Arrow” season 5 through the lens of one Oliver Queen, but how will the story moving forward impact Felicity Smoak? At the end of the fourth season, she was able to use her skills in order to save a good percentage of the United States from Damian Darhk. Yet, at the same time, her actions did directly lead to a mass tragedy in the town of Havenrock. She was not able to save everyone, and like any other hero, what happened here is going to weigh on her in a big way.

Speaking per Zap2It in a new interview, executive producer Wendy Mericle made it clear that what happened there is going to weigh on Felicity, and you will see the ramifications of that throughout many of the episodes ahead:

“She’s really, in the beginning of the season, grappling with the fallout from what happened at Havenrock and that will be a huge focus for her in the first nine [episodes of the season].”

We’re not entirely sure what happens at this point that suddenly makes things better; maybe the writers have not started to really think too far into the future beyond that. For now, we just know that this is a very different world for Felicity and many other characters than it was in season 4. She doesn’t have the same relationship with Oliver, it is unclear how much Diggle there will be in some of the early episodes, and we also have both some new characters and some mysterious threats coming up in the near future.
