TV Quick Hits: ‘Black Mirror,’ ‘One Day at a Time’ premiere dates; ‘MacGyver’ casting; ‘Chelsea’ renewed
We’ve got a lot of different Netflix-related story items thanks to the streaming service attending the TCA Summer Press Tour today, so let’s start off this edition of TV Quick Hits by diving right into them!
“Black Mirror” premiere date – For those of you who appreciate the British cult hit, rest assured that you will get a chance to see a lot of great stuff starting on Friday, October 21.
“One Day at a Time” series premiere date – The remake of the popular comedy will launch on January 6, and will feature a slightly different take on the original premise through the eyes of a Cuban-American family. Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, and Rita Moreno are all poised to star in the series.
“Chelsea” coming back – Despite a bumpy start, Netflix has enjoyed the Chelsea Handler talk series enough to officially sign it up for a second year on the air. This doesn’t surprise us too much; they made a commitment to giving this format a shot, and it certainly seems as though they would like to see it through.
“MacGyver” casting news – In moving away from Netflix, “The Vampire Diaries” / “The Newsroom” alumni Tristin Mays has signed on to appear in the reboot of the CBS action-adventure series, playing a skilled but somewhat surprising computer hacker named Riley. This show has retooled following pilot season; Justin Hires of “Rush Hour” fame is one of the other names that has been added to the cast. This will premiere Friday nights this fall, replacing one of our personal favorites in “The Amazing Race Canada.”
