‘America’s Got Talent’ rankings: Looking at Jon Dorenbos, Sofie Dossi, Malevo as Golden Buzzer acts

AGT -During this past episode of “America’s Got Talent” on NBC, we saw Jayna Brown receive the final Golden Buzzer of the season via Louis Tomlinson. With that in mind, let’s do our best to figure out where some of these acts stand in the larger scope of the competition.

If you missed it, we already ranked the Golden Buzzers from the audition rounds over here; for this article, we’re specifically talking about the folks who received them in the Judge Cuts, and we’re basing this in turn on performance quality, perceived popularity, and voting history of similar acts on the show.

4. Jayna Brown (Louis Tomlinson) – We don’t think Jayna was bad by any means. This ranking is more with upside in mind. We easily could see her in the finale, but at the same time, there are so many singers that we just can’t see her being a threat to win. We also feel like there is a lot of anti-singer frustration out there after Laura Bretan, Grace VanderWaal, Sal Valentinetti, and Calysta Bevier all received Golden Buzzers in the first round.

3. Sofie Dossi (Reba McEntire) – We had a really hard time comparing Sofie to the other acts who are on here, mostly because we’re trying to compare her performance so far to where she could go moving forward this season. She’s in a tricky spot because we’ve already seen the bow-and-arrow trick twice, and now she has to come up with something totally new. If she does that, you could see her as a threat to make it into the finale.

2. Malevo (George Lopez) – Their Golden Buzzer may be one of our favorite moments of the entire season, just based on how emotional they seemed to be, and how in turn that made George emotional, as well. The most exciting thing about these guys is that we feel we’ve just scratched the surface on what they can do. They are versatile, and that’s a huge advantage to have on this show.

1. Jon Dorenbos (Ne-Yo) – Jon’s big challenge is that there are other supremely talented magicians this season. However, there are two huge things working for him at present: He has a built-in fanbase thanks to Philadelphia Eagles fans out there, and magic acts in general have performed very well over the past few years. The victory of Mat Franco is still very much fresh of mind.
