‘Preacher’ episode 9 video: DeBlanc and Fiore ponder their next move

As we start to near the end of “Preacher” season 1, matters will intensity for everyone. Genesis has shown its power, Jesse Custer has shown his vulnerabilities to the past, and the dysfunctional relationship between Tulip and Cassidy has been shown off in fantastic effect.

So where are we going to see this series go on tonight’s episode? Well, for DeBlanc and Fiore, they have some key decisions to make. The sneak peek below offers up a reasonable tease, though we gotta admit that we really wanted one featuring Jesse given his present state of things, potentially even on the run after the latest showdown.

Ultimately, we enjoyed the showdown last week, especially the part where we realized just how difficult it will be for Preacher to get rid of Genesis once and for all. Yet, at the same time we do think that this is a show still in need of some sort of shot in the arm, or an iconic moment or two that will get people talking beyond just the loyal viewers. That’s something that “The Walking Dead” was able to execute in its early seasons, though who knows? Maybe this show just needs the power of streaming after the fact to get some people hooked.

Tonight is the penultimate episode of the season, and with that, we’ll be spending a substantial amount of time previewing and setting up the finale later today. Just remember that there already is a season 2, so you don’t have to worry so much about the end of this season not getting some sort of payoff in the future.
