‘Sherlock’ season 4 trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch takes center stage
There is one bit of bad news that came out of “Sherlock” and its appearance at San Diego Comic-Con: You’re not getting the return of the series, at least in America on PBS, until 2017. Then again, we don’t know why you would have expected anything different given that season 3 and “The Abominable Bride” both premiered early on in the year.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way … let’s go ahead and move on to the good news. We’ve got a new trailer! In the video HERE, you can see Sherlock Holmes back in action, but not in the way that you’re used to. Much like in “The Abominable Bride,” he’s haunted by ghosts of his past, and suspicious of Moriarty at almost every turn. Over the course of the next three episodes, there will be some new cases, brilliant character interactions, and a few new additions including Toby Jones, playing an iconic Sherlock villain.
Above all else, there’s a sense of darkness in this trailer that suggests something terrible is coming soon. Maybe that is not the case, but let’s just say that this clip hardly is inspiring confidence in us that there is a peaceful stretch ahead for Holmes, Watson, and the rest of the main characters.
There has been talk that season 4 could be the final season of the show, but that’s not necessarily confirmed just yet. At this point, we’re just happy to continue along this journey as long as it lasts. We understand that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are extremely busy guys; who knows when they would even be around to film some more new episodes?
