‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 (officially) casts Ghost Rider

Agents of SHIELD -

When we first saw that “Agents of SHIELD” was going to be promoting itself at San Diego Comic-Con with fire and chains adorning some trains, we wondered if that meant we were getting a chance to see Ghost Rider turn up on the show in some shape or form. However, at the same time we had an almost-impossible time convincing ourselves that this could be actually happening. After all, we’re talking about a character so different than many other regulars, and we didn’t quite understand how he would fit.

We still don’t quite understand, but it was confirmed at the convention this year that Gabriel Luna (“Wicked City”) would be cast on the show as Robbie Reyes, the latest incarnation of the Ghost Rider character from the comics. He has a different backstory from the Johnny Blaze character made famous by Nicolas Cage in the movies, and he also drivers around in a car rather than a motorcycle.

In a statement to go along with this news, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb passed along the following message:

“Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider … When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.”

One thing that is obviously smart about this decision is that you are giving “SHIELD” a popular Marvel character, and potentially one of their most well-known to ever be a main part of the show. Could this boost ratings? Someone likely hopes so. For us, we personally would have preferred to see Moon Knight … but we will see where this story goes.
