‘BoJack Horseman’ renewed for season 4
Update: Well, that was quick. Netflix has already confirmed there will be a season 4.
Today on Netflix, we’re getting a chance to officially dive into one of our favorite series once more in “BoJack Horseman.” It’s funny, but at the same time it’s weird, subversive, thought-provoking, and insanely underrated. The second half of the first season in particular probably remains to us one of the strongest stretches for any animated series we’ve seen in some time.
Maybe we’ll have a chance to share more of an opinion on the third season a little bit down the road, but we’re going to go ahead and pose the question: Will there be a fourth season? Should there be? Our perception is yes, mostly because it feels like there at this point is still much more of the story to tell for this character. Unless he somehow figures out a way to be happy in season 3, this is the major thing that continues to elude this character. Meanwhile, the likes of Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter remain dysfunctional in their own right.
One of the many reasons why so many of these animated shows have such great longevity is simply a matter of convenience. You can always have different animators, and it is a smaller time commitment for the cast than going on location and shooting something. Logistically, it’s easy to assume that they can make it work. The main thing we’re waiting on at this point is for Netflix to make an announcement, which we personally hope will be in the next month or two once people are starting to wrap up the story this season.
