‘Hell on Wheels’ series finale video: One more brawl
For some reason, we’ve always appreciated the brawls on “Hell on Wheels” more than almost any other show over the past few years. Maybe it’s because while so many other shows are often very dark and gritty when depicting violence, there’s always something a little fun about the ones orchestrated here. Go back to the mud brawl, for example, which may be one of our favorite scenes out there. (We’ve also argued over the years that no show does “exhausted men fighting” quite like “Hell on Wheels,” either.)
The sneak peek below for Saturday’s series finale contains what we really consider to be a classic Western trope done one more time: The bar brawl. The main difference here is that it is outdoors, and it happens when Cullen deliberately taunts Mickey and asks for a drink the moment that he is told to stop. The preview is representative in many ways of how Mickey has come up since the start of the series, and also where Cullen is, as well, in the aftermath of his efforts on the railroad while trying to figure out what is next.
Rest assured that these two men will still have plenty of time to figure out their path — once they’re done, fighting as is. Even if there are other matters to attend to, we’re glad that the series finale has at least one good old-fashioned fight in there.
Rest assured that we’re going to have a ton of coverage of the series finale this weekend. In addition to a review for the finale posted mere minutes after it airs, we also will have an exclusive postmortem up with executive producer John Wirth.
