‘Bones’ season 12: Show boss on Zack Addy reveal
On tonight’s “Bones” season finale, the producers really held nothing back in their efforts to surprise the audience. Specifically, they brought back Zack Addy for the first time in years, but in an extremely unexpected way as he had seemingly captured Brennan after luring everyone else out of the Jeffersonian.
So what does Zack really want? Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Jonathan Collier described the character’s present state, but stopped short of giving a particular motive:
“He’s as brilliant, as interesting, as complex as ever – if not more so. I feel like they were just starting to scratch the surface of a new aspect of his character when he first left the series [in Season 3], and this is our chance to dig into that.”
Not only that, Collier was mum on whether or not Zack was the Puppeteer, the villain that Booth and Brennan were specifically chasing in the final episode:
“I can’t confirm anything. It’s really gratifying to be where we take everything. Everything is very, very satisfying. Everything makes sense. Everything is earned, and everything is surprising. And there will be more of Zack in Season 12.”
Regardless of what Zack’s true intentions are, for the time being we are simply thrilled the show took such a bold move leading into the final season. It would have been easy to try to bring Zack back in some sort of cheesy one-off that paid tribute to who the character was at one point in the show’s run; with that, we’re rather thrilled that the series is taking a little bit more of a risk and giving him a darker, more mysterious edge.
