Cable ratings: ‘The Fosters’ season 4, ‘The Last Ship’ season 3

Fosters -Since we’ve been asked a few times as of late about ratings for some currently-on-the-bubble cable series, why not provide them all in one spot? Specifically, we’re talking here about “The Fosters” and “The Last Ship,” which both are hopefully going to have a renewal decision made over the next couple of months.

The Fosters” season 4 – For the Freeform series starring Maia Mitchell and Teri Polo, we’re seeing at least some measure of consistency. This past episode Monday drew a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is even to the rating that came out the week before for the show. We of course wonder if this is strong enough for a season 5 (the show is relatively close to its season 3 average so far in the demo); if nothing else, we like to think that this is a groundbreaking and important enough show that its network would want to give it at least one more run to try and wrap things up.

The Last Ship” season 3 – When it comes to the TNT drama, the future is a little bit more unclear based on the latest numbers. This past episode scored a 0.5 rating in the demo, which is on par with the season average so far. However, the difference between this show and “The Fosters” (beyond a difference in budget) is that so far the ratings are down more than 30% from season 2. That’s a sign that has us worried, but in the same vein we do think it would give the network some goodwill to give this show a fitting end, much like they did with another hit in “Falling Skies.”

We’ll keep you updated on both shows as the summer presses on!
