‘Outlander’ season 3 spoilers: How much Lord John Grey will we see?
In all of the hype surrounding the first appearances of Roger and Brianna during the “Outlander” season 2 finale last week, you could argue that another important character was somewhat lost in the shuffle in terms of their overall importance was Lord John Grey. He wasn’t fully introduced by that name in season 2, but he is someone who fans of Diana Gabaldon’s work know very well.
Here is the tricky thing when it comes to the character: While he does appear in some novels, he also has his own spin-offs out there … and given that he has now been introduced, you do have to wonder whether or not this material is fair game for the show to cover. It’s a good question, but for now, the answer seems to be that it is not an extreme priority on the part of executive producer Ronald D. Moore. Speaking to TVLine, he makes it clear that the main source of material for the show will continue to be the primary book series about Jamie and Claire:
“John Grey is in the third book, so we’re kind of taking our cues from what is actually in the third book [Voyager] at this point … We’re not averse to [exploring the material]. We just aren’t really bringing in the other novels at this point.”
Ultimately, we mostly understand that just from the vantage point that the show clearly has a lot of other things that they can tackle and take on for the immediate future. There is no shortage of things that the writers / producers can do or take on.
