Ratings: ‘The Night Shift’, ‘Wayward Pines’ rise; ‘America’s Got Talent’ dings ‘Big Brother 18’
Did expanding to four hours a week hurt “America’s Got Talent“? It certainly did not seem like it based on the numbers from last night.
The NBC talent competition kept just about all of its 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which was easily enough for the show to take the title of #1 show for the night. This was not a show ever in any danger of getting canceled, but this should help to even further cement its status as TV’s premiere summer staple. The end of “American Idol” and many other talent competitions probably only benefits it further since the format won’t be anywhere near as style.
The arrival of “AGT” on Wednesday also managed to hurt “Big Brother” slightly, as that show dropped down to a 1.7 rating. It in turn ended up helping another, as “The Night Shift” rose to a 1.3 as a result of it getting a rather nice lead-in. That should help aid its season 4 renewal chances, though there is no guarantee of anything at present.
As for another show in need of a ratings boost to further ensure a renewal, the latest episode of “Wayward Pines” ended up drawing a 0.8 rating. We consider it firmly a bubble show, but if there is talk about there being a third and final season, we’d be all for it provided that there is a good idea at the center of it.
We will have some other news coming up on all of these shows, so be on the lookout over the course of the coming days!
