‘American Horror Story’ star Kathy Bates joins Netflix – Chuck Lorre comedy; season 6 status still unclear
There’s great news out there for those of you who want to see more of Kathy Bates: The actress has landed a rather cushy / wonderful new gig on Netflix!
In a press release today, the streaming provider announced that they have ordered twenty episodes of a new comedy “Disjointed” hailing from super-producer Chuck Lorre over at Warner Bros. TV. It’s a rare venture these days for him away from CBS, but given the subject matter of this show (see the logline below), it’s understandable why it’s better elsewhere:
“Disjointed is a workplace comedy starring Kathy Bates as a lifelong advocate for legalization who’s finally living her dream as the owner of an L.A.–area cannabis dispensary. Joining her are three budtenders, her twenty-something son and a deeply troubled security guard. All of them are more or less constantly high.”
Bates does have a history of working with Lorre, as she previously guest-starred on “Two and a Half Men” playing at one point the ghost of Charlie Harper in one of the show’s better episodes after the exit of Charlie Sheen. She’s also done some comedy in “The Office,” but this is a shot for her to shine as a lead.
As for what this means for her on “American Horror Story,” where she served as a regular the past three seasons, that remains unclear. Much of it could depend on production, but we would hope that she would at least still get a chance to turn up in an episode or two over on FX.
