Emmys 2016: Tom Hiddleston, Martin Freeman, Kathy Bates among Limited Series / TV Movie reader picks
We’re continuing along today our journey discussing the CarterMatt reader picks for the 2016 Emmy Awards; after all, nominations are only one day away! Come Thursday, we’ll have a better opportunity to look individually at some of these categories, and determine who we think is the most worthy winner of the bunch.
For this article, we’re focusing on the reader picks from the TV Movie / Miniseries categories were. There were some good races in here, and in turn, some surprising results. There are also a few technical things we’ll also have to get to.
Limited Series – “Happy Valley.” We do think the show deserves it, and for us using some of the old nomination rules, we considered it more here than Drama Series. Unfortunately, when the ballots came out after we created our list, it was actually submitted as a Drama. Still, kudos to the fans!
Limited Series / TV Movie Actor – Tom Hiddleston, “The Night Manager.” It was a battle of British TV / movie stars for this category, but Tom emerged victorious over Benedict Cumberbatch, who put up a fine showing in “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.”
Limited Series / TV Movie Actress – Sarah Lancastshire, “Happy Valley.” It’s a pretty similar situation to what we had above with the show itself, but kudos to Sarah nonetheless for securing a dominant win. For those wondering, if she was included in the Drama category on the site she would have finished second behind Caitriona Balfe of “Outlander.”
Limited Series / TV Movie Supporting Actor – Martin Freeman, “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.” While not a close showdown by any stretch of the imagination, at least this award wasn’t a complete blowout with Hugh Laurie from “The Night Manager” in second place.
Limited series / TV Movie Supporting Actress – Kathy Bates, “American Horror Story: Hotel.” The crown jewel in this FX franchise managed to come away with some love here! We’re not quite sure the show will get any come Thursday.
