‘Outlander’ season 2 finale ticks up in live+same day ratings

Outlander -

We’re here with our final “Outlander” ratings report of the season, and to go along with that one final admission that maybe these numbers are getting almost impossible to gauge in an era where there are so many different ways in which people watch a show.

Years ago, live+same day ratings were a fairly accurate judge of total viewership, mostly because DVR ownership was still picking up steam and there weren’t so many other options. Now with a show like this one you’ve got everything from repeat airings to On Demand views and streams from the Starz app. Add to this the fact that some people got a chance to watch the finale early on the app, and it complicates the numbers all the more.

Since we’ve done it for most of the season, though, we’ll go ahead and deliver the live numbers for the finale: 1.15 million, and then also a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of total viewers, that is the best number for the show since the fourth episode of the show in April, so there is an achievement there! Numbers do typically tick up in the finale.

We’re not sure how much more ratings reporting we’ll be doing beyond maybe the premiere for next season, largely because things are so skewed now. We’ll mostly be curious in hearing a few weeks from now what the actual average viewership was for the whole season with all of the different ways in which people can watch factored in.
