‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7, episode 4 review: Jenna returns; Toby’s big Dr. Rollins surprise
“Pretty Little Liars” gave us a heck of a shock last week by killing off the character of Elliot Rollins, so with that, there was a huge question as to how the Liars were going to push forward.
As it turns out, things didn’t go that great. Spencer and the rest of the Liars had asked Toby for help prior to the death of this character, and he found some pretty shocking revelations. It turns out that the doctor was dead … but not like they thought. Instead, “Dr. Rollins” was a fake name, and he had taken the identity of an old doctor who is now deceased. Of course, the fact that Toby is now searching for this fake doctor (who is also now dead) probably isn’t great news since sooner or later, the police are going to find them.
Before you say something, we don’t really think that this is a case of bumbling police this time around. Toby seems to be putting the pieces together in as intelligent a way as possible. The Liars should regret telling him, even if we understand why they did.
As for some other big reveals, tonight brought us the return of both Mona and also Jenna, and the cliffhanger ending at the end of the hour definitely makes it clear that somehow, she is involved. Then again, is she really playing for the bad guys? That’s something we have been left to wonder the whole series.
All of the stories we mentioned above were very solidly put together by the show. We’re less enthused by the romance stuff, mostly because we still feel like the ending to all of this is so obvious, it’s hardly worth commenting on. Grade: B.
