‘The Bachelorette’ review: Did James Taylor, Alex Woytkiw make JoJo Fletcher’s hometown dates?
Monday night’s new episode of “The Bachelorette” was the last before hometown dates, and let’s be honest: It’s generally pretty dull. Most of the predictable people stay until hometown dates, and then most of the others are destined to go home and are contenders instead for “Bachelor in Paradise.”
The first victim of the quick boot this time around was none other than Alex Woytkiw, a nice guy who fell victim to something rather timeless: She’s just not that into you. No doubt, he was super into JoJo, but there had to be a part of him that knew that if he wasn’t getting a one-on-one date until this point in the competitions, odds were not high that he’d be sticking around in the long-term. At least he took down Chad … so that’s something?
In other news, the possibly-interesting group date was canceled due to terrible weather, so instead we got a chance to see James Taylor, Robby Hayes, and Chase McNary chill out in a hotel and pretend they were seventeen … so there’s that. Maybe if you really wanted to see Robby’s blurred-out rear end, this episode did something for you. For the rest of people, probably not. Robby got the rose, in case anyone cares.
For those of you who prefer individual dates, maybe you enjoyed the mixture of romance and awkwardness on JoJo’s date with Jordan Rodgers as he did a clever dance around the state of things with his brother Aaron. Luke Pell and JoJo were definitely romantic, and you got the sense that producers just wanted to get the guy close to a barn so that he could feel like he was at home.
At the end of the episode, James was sent off to go eat a ton of French fries elsewhere, and now, we’re left waiting one more week for what we really want. It’s hometown time! Grade: C+.
