‘The Night Of’ episode 2 preview: What lies ahead in ‘Subtle Beast’

Tonight, HBO premiered its latest mystery series in “The Night Of,” and upon finishing it our excitement level was palpable. This show has done a brilliant job through one episode of weaving together a narrative, especially when it comes to setting up the stakes for our main character Nasir a.k.a. Naz.

At the moment, his situation is both clear and dangerous. He is behind bars under suspicion of murder, something he claims he did not do. Yet, at the same time, there may be reasonable doubt even in his own mind give that he was drunk, he had taken drugs, and he had never been in such a position before. He will need help to determine his future, and there to lend a helping hand is John Stone, an attorney who is beaten-down in his own way.

HBO has been fairly coy to date in releasing information about upcoming episodes. What we do know is that “Subtle Beast” is the title for next week’s 60-minute installment, and a short synopsis can be seen below via TV Guide:

“Naz gets legal advice from his attorney, John Stone, while Det. Dennis Box investigates the crime.”

Basically, what happens next week is precisely what you would assume would happen given the sort of show this is. The investigation will span some time, but for now, all evidence is pointing towards Nasir as a killer. Either he or Stone will need to determine another angle soon, since otherwise this will remain an uphill battle for the entirety of the proceedings.
