‘UnREAL’ season 2 spoilers: Shiri Appleby on Rachel – Jeremy fallout

No matter how you slice it, all signs point to Monday night’s new episode of “UnREAL” being a huge one for Shiri Appleby. For one, this marks the actress’ directorial debut, but to go along with that she also has some of her most harrowing material to date.

At the end of this past episode, Jeremy let all of the rage and the pain in his heart towards Rachel out in horrific fashion, striking her in the midst of a drunken fury. Chet stepped in and immediately fired him from the show, but his exit from the world of “Everlasting” does not mean that the pain goes away.

As Appleby tells TVLine in a new interview, much of the struggle coming up from her character now is emotional:

“It affects her whole being. She’s kind of knocked over in a certain direction, and subsequent things continue to happen to her. The second half of this season is really asking the question, ‘How much can a person take? And how do you get control over your life?'”

While Rachel may have some things going for her now, especially with Coleman being a steady presence, there are also many concerns. For one, her job is soul-sucking, and we’ve yet to see a situation where dealing with the rigors of it is good for her. She is also close to someone in Quinn who she has a hot-and-cold relationship with, and many of her “friends” are actually just people on set. Do these people care about her, or simply care about getting better jobs and making the best show that they can? It’s a self-destructive environment.

There are several episodes left, and unfortunately that means things could get worse before they are better.
