‘Outlander’ season 3: Premiere date speculation for hit Starz drama
All good things come to an end, and that remains true in the “Outlander” universe. This weekend marks the end of season 2, but there is plenty more where that came from!
For those who missed the news earlier this year, Starz ensured the long-term future of the Diana Gabaldon adaptation by renewing it for two additional seasons. So long as there continues to be a season a year, the series is good to run until at least 2018. Given that there are eight books in the series at present, it is possible in theory it could run far beyond that. We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves for the time being, though…
As for when season 3 could premiere, that is a question on the minds of many; unfortunately, there is no clear answer. If season 3 were to start again in the spring, that would be enough to satisfy us. It is standard to wait this long between seasons, after all. Another interesting element of season 3 to watch for is the night in which it airs. Given that Starz has moved “Power” to Sundays, and there are plans to do the same with other marquee series, it is certainly possible this show could also air on the night. We don’t quite love the idea of it going against “Game of Thrones,” but devoted fans will continue to watch regardless. Time will tell there.
There will be time to discuss the future of the show story-wise, but the presumption is that much of season 3 will be fittingly based on Voyager, the third book in the series in which Claire goes far into the future and meets up with Captain Janeway. (“Star Trek” humor, anyone?) We won’t spoil any actual events from the books, mostly because there are many out there who prefer to be surprised. Also, we’re not a book reader and can only speak in generalizations.
