‘Today Show’ performances from Shawn Mendes pulled from East Coast broadcast; watch online now (video)
Like many other morning shows out there, “Today” on NBC rolls out a Summer Concert Series featuring some of the biggest performers in music hitting the stage for a ton of fans in downtown New York City. Usually these are fun, super-joyous occasions, but unfortunately on Friday, there was a damper surrounding the one featuring Shawn Mendes in light of everything that happened in Dallas the night before.
If you missed the news, several police officers were killed and others were injured during what started as a peaceful protest downtown in the city. It was a really horrible event, and given our own connections to the city after living there for many years, it’s especially sad to us.
NBC ultimately decided to pull the Mendes performances from the East Coast broadcast to provide coverage of the events in Dallas, which we certainly feel to be an understandable move given the circumstances. Is it a bummer for fans of the singer? Absolutely, and we understand their frustrations if they woke up specifically to watch him sing some of his biggest hits on the show.
Luckily, the network has at least released them online, and some of the performances are set to air during the West Coast version of the broadcast. You can check them out below.
We certainly hope moving forward that no other concert performances are bumped off the air, and by that, we mostly mean that we hope no more tragedies occur that cause some of these morning shows to have to change up their coverage at the last minute. It would certainly be the situation that would make the majority of us smile the brightest.
