‘The Walking Dead’ season 7: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Xander Berkeley, others promoted to series regular
While it has not been reported to date, it only makes sense that “The Walking Dead” would be handing out promotions to some of the actors who are going to have important roles in the upcoming seventh season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Tom Payne, Austin Amelio and Xander Berkeley are all going to be series regulars moving forward, which makes sense given that Negan, Jesus, Dwight, and Gregory are all extremely important parts of the story right now when it comes to the Saviors, the Hilltop Colony, and everything else that is going on right now.
When Morgan’s casting was first revealed, the assumption was that he would be promoted to a regular. This news is just the icing on the cake. He will almost surely be the Big Bad for a good while, given that he is one of the most noteworthy bad guys within the world of the comics for a reason. He’s not just a flash-in-the-pan.
One thing that we would caution you on, though, when it comes to all of these promotions is that this is no guarantee that you will see these characters around for the entire season, let alone more than a handful of episodes. Andrew J. West is a great example of an actor who was promoted to series regular, only for his character to be killed off on the show before you knew it. In some ways, this is a way to further facilitate the element of surprise with the show.
