‘BoJack Horseman’ season 3 photo: A star is born … again

The third season of “BoJack Horseman” may not premiere on Netflix until July 22, but the streaming service has started to unveil some of the first-look photos … and the one that we have for you today signals at least a couple of things when it comes to the trajectory of our title horse’s life.

If you look above, you can see BoJack at the premiere presumably of his long-awaited pet project “Secretariat,” something that led at times to breakdowns over the course of season 2. When the idea of the movie started to drift far from his vision, he attempted to bail on it and even move away from Los Angeles. Yet, in the end he did end up apparently finding his way back. We’ve already seen in some footage for the new season that this is leading to some potential awards buzz for him in the role, but does he really want it?

One of the interesting things about BoJack as a character is that he seems to suffer from a sort of perpetual unhappiness. No matter what he chases down, nothing ever seems to bring a smile to his face. Will that change over the course of the new season? We’ll have to wait and see, but we’re not particularly optimistic given that he’s certainly had a lot of ebbs and flows over the course of his life and he has never quite gotten there. Even in this photo, we cannot say with confidence that he looks all that happy to be there.
