Ratings: ‘Big Brother 18’ and everything else plummet before July 4
Before we dive too deep into the ratings report for Monday night’s lineup, we should go ahead and throw a rather-big asterisk into here: Go ahead and take all of these numbers with a massive grain of salt. Last night was the day before the Fourth of July, and that is hardly a time where there is not exactly a whole lot on … and there’s not really a whole lot of people around to watch anything, either.
Luckily, we do at least have a few shows to discuss here.
“Big Brother” – Yes, the ratings for last night (1.3 in the 18-49 demographic) were pretty bad; as a matter of fact, they are significantly worse than any Sunday telecast from the past two years. That’s not really too big of a shock to us given that it has been a while since the Fourth fell on a Sunday; what may be a little more disconcerting is that it is lower than any show last year by a pretty dramatic margin. We do think that the holiday is still hurting this night bad especially because of circumstances, but this season is not really doing much to get people excited.
ABC’s Fun and Games – In what is further evidence of the rough night before the Fourth, every single show from $100,000 Pyramid (1.1) to “Celebrity Family Feud” (1.2) to “Match Game” (1.1) fell more than 25% in the demo as opposed to the week before. Like with “Big Brother,” this is still a decent rating for the summer, and it is clearly not going anywhere.
