‘Elementary’ season 5: Will Natalie Dormer – ‘Game of Thrones’ surprise influence anything?
Maybe “Elementary” was not the first thing that we thought of when we were watching the season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones” on Sunday night, but if we’re being honest here, we do have to admit that it is something that crossed our mind not too long after it was over.
(Warning: There are of course spoilers for the HBO drama ahead.)
During “The Winds of Winter,” we had a chance to see one of the most brutal sequences in the history of the show as Cersei effectively unleashed wildfire on everyone attending the trial, which seemed to kill almost the entirety of the Faith Militant, the High Sparrow, and both Loras and Margaery Tyrell to boot. (King Tommen later committed suicide by jumping to his death, clearly tired of everything that had transpired with him in this world.)
Basically, Natalie Dormer is now seemingly done with the show, which brings us back to “Elementary.” Is it possible that she could be available to return now as Irene Adler / Moriarty? We do wonder. We know that she is still busy doing a wide array of feature films, and that has been as much a reason for her character’s absence as doing the show. Yet, this was several months out of the year that she was busy, especially in the late summer / early fall parts of it. We certainly don’t think this is confirmation of anything (in other words, don’t get your hopes up), but it does give us at least the tiniest bit of hope that somewhere, Dormer may be able to fit in a week or two in order to do the show.
