‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6 spoilers: You will see a return to normalcy
One of the most charming things to us about the first season of “Once Upon a Time” is that we got to know another side of these popular fairy-tale characters. Sure, we knew that Snow White was a famed adventurer and the wife of Prince Charming, but she was also humble teacher Mary Margaret. Meanwhile, we knew that Jiminy Cricket played a key role in the Enchanted Forest as a companion and beacon for advice, but in Storybrooke he was a therapist.
Over the past few seasons, it feels like characters have lost that other half. Charming has just been Charming, and Snow has just been Snow. Maybe Rumpelstiltskin has still remained Mr. Gold to a certain extent, but he always was aware of his double-life in the way that others were not.
We’ve heard a few times now that one of the goals for the sixth season is return things back to the way things were in the early seasons, and per co-creator Edward Kitsis’ latest comments to Entertainment Weekly, this includes getting us back to our small-town atmosphere and the familiar professions:
“One of the things that we really want to get back to this year is that season 1 and 2 vibe of small town stories, being in Storybrooke and getting back to Mary Margaret as the teacher, Emma as the sheriff, Grumpy as the janitor.”
Now, if only we couldn’t have more of the season 1 familiar faces like Archie, Ruby, and Dr. Whale on the show again. (We get that David Anders is busy on “iZombie,” but still.) We also still wish Sheriff Graham was still alive, but of course getting Jamie Dornan back at this point feels like an almost-impossible feat.
