‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 10 (finale) preview: The wrath of Davos
In many ways, Davos is the other shoe on “Game of Thrones” that we have been waiting to see drop for a rather long time. Ever since the end of last season, there have been questions regarding precisely when the character, played so effectively by Liam Cunningham, would learn that Melisandre was responsible for the death of Stannis’ daughter Shireen, someone he basically considered a daughter of his own and even in ways a friend.
Well, everything’s set to explode on the finale Sunday night, and the man certainly appears to be unhappy about it. Could we be leading towards a showdown like no other between Davos and the Red Woman? It certainly feels that way, and one of the interesting things worth debating is who Jon, Sansa, and the rest of the characters in the North would side with.
If it’s an either/or situation, our presumption is that Jon and Sansa would clearly want to keep Davos around, given that he is an extremely loyal, smart man who has been an ally. Tormund would likely feel the same way. Yet, Melisandre has experience in things that few other people do, and she literally brought Jon back from the dead. Her use may be more significant than Davos’ down the line, and that may be essential in the wars to come.
Remember here that “Game of Thrones” is often not a show where the popular survive; sometimes, the good guys end up kicking the bucket early to serve a larger purpose.
