‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ season 11, episode 2 review: Vicki Gunvalson, Kelly Dodd form a friendship
Last time on “The Real Housewives of Orange County” we saw Vicki pull Heather aside on her boat cruise to apologize for everything that happened with Brooks and asking for her friendship and forgiveness, but of course we were left with a cliffhanger as Heather doesn’t answer her right away. Will she forgive Vicki and even if she does will their friendship ever be the same?
So did Heather forgive Vicki? While Vicki did admit that Brooks’ lie was horrible and she doesn’t support that, she also denied being part of the lie, which is what is making Heather and the other ladies crazy, because they feel she knew some of it. Heather didn’t seem to really forgive Vicki, but she wants to move on and that’s a great first step, where as Vicki doesn’t want to continue the apology tour with the rest of the ladies, but wants to move forward leaving Brooks in the past.
As the new housewife, Kelly has no part of all the Brooks stuff that happened and therefore wants to get to know Vicki for herself regardless of “warnings” from Meghan. We really love Kelly for doing this, because so often people do make judgments from other people’s experiences instead of finding out for themselves. Kelly and Vicki have great chemistry and it seems like there could be a really strong friendship here in time.
After spending time with Vicki, Kelly heads to Meghan’s house to get to know the rest of the women better and things go well… that is until she tells the other women that they were a little mean to Vicki. She tells Shannon straight out that she thought she was unfriendly at the party and that Vicki didn’t say anything negative about the other women at their lunch. There’s such a long history between Vicki and the rest of the women that it’s a pretty bold thing for Kelly to push this agenda after just one lunch. We did learn that Kelly’s motivation for protecting Vicki comes from within herself as she has seen groups of women gang up on one person in the past and it’s her natural instinct to stand up for that person, but at the same time, it’s important to understand all sides to the situation before weighing in.
We were hoping to avoid a lot of Brooks talk this season since it took over the whole show last season, but there’s still quite a heavy focus on it. Also, in case you missed it, we spoke to Shannon Beador in an exclusive CarterMatt interview the other day about the season, her time on the show and her marriage, so be sure to check that out at the link here.
