MTV moves ‘Scream’ season 2 to Tuesdays
At some point before the start of “Scream” season 2, someone at MTV clearly made the decision that the show had a better chance of succeeding Monday nights at 11:00 p.m. Eastern. In a way, we understand the bold move since it marks an opportunity for them to try and capitalize on a relatively empty timeslot when it comes to scripted programming. Also, their audience is young, so they presumably thought that they would have a better chance succeeding here as opposed to somewhere else.
Now that we’ve said that, clearly the network has figured out that the ratings just don’t justify the move here anymore. Today, the show on Twitter confirmed that from here on out, it will air Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. This is the same spot that it aired at during season 1, and while the ratings weren’t great there, it may at least incentivize some people who were not watching live to now do so.
Do we think that the show now has a better chance at a third season? Absolutely, but it’s still a little bit of an uphill climb since there are some hurdles that they are going to have to overcome. For example, they have to figure out a way to get more people talking / discussing the show in addition to watching.
The one thing that we feel with confidence more so than anything else is rather simple: This is a network that is probably really missing a show like “Teen Wolf” right about now.
