‘Lucifer’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Battlestar Galactica’ alum Tricia Helfer books major role

We heard some time ago that the second season of “Lucifer” on Fox was going to revolve in part around our leading man and his “mommy issues,” and we know now precisely who will play this all-important character … and it is a very familiar face.

As first reported by TVLine, Tricia Helfer of “Battlestar Galactica” fame is going to play the character of Charlotte, who is described as follows:

“Trapped in Hell for thousands of years by God (her ex-husband), the Mother of Angels is now free on Earth. Once reunited with Lucifer, it will become clear that she’s the one he takes after. Mom is fearless and has a strong conviction for who she is and what she deserves. However, mother and son do not share the same opinion when it comes to humanity. Everything that fascinates Lucifer about people repels Mom — a disdain that’s highlighted by that fact that Mom’s trapped in a human body for her stay on Earth. Lucifer’s desperate to find out what Mom’s up to, but she claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again. But can the devil’s mom really be that innocent?”

We love the casting, mostly since Helfer is an industry icon who is very good at these sort of morally ambiguous characters. Also, we can see her and Tom Ellis working really well next to each other on this show. If she brings a little more attention to “Lucifer,” which hasn’t really had much since it premiered after “The X-Files” on the Fox midseason schedule, we certainly feel like that is a good thing.

The second season will premiere on Fox this fall; once there is some further news to report, we’ll have it for you here.
