Donald Trump – ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ feud continues
Following his decision earlier this week to ban the Washington Post from many of his media events, Donald Trump faced a decision of his own from Seth Meyers. In the wake of really so many different things, the comedian basically banned him from all future editions of “Late Night.”
Of course, you had to expect that Trump was going to respond to that, and he did courtesy of a short statement to Variety that is chock full of the same sort of grandstanding that you would ultimately expect from the man:
“He has begged me to do the show for the last two years. I have told him emphatically ‘no.’ I only like doing shows with good ratings, which as everybody knows, I only make better (by a lot).”
This statement is a mixture of hyperbole and truth. We know that Meyers had at least scheduled Trump before to do the show, but it never came to pass; however, we don’t seem ever “begging” to have the Presidential candidate on, since that has never been his style. It’s almost similar to when Trump claimed that John Oliver had invited him to do “Last Week Tonight” on multiple occasions, but the host insisted that this was not the case.
As for the ratings, there’s no real truth to that. “Late Night” is the #1 show of its kind out there, easily defeating “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Meyers has an audience, even if it is smaller than the shows airing earlier in the night. Then again, what do you really expect?
Given that we’re talking about a feud now between a late-night talk show and a bombastic politician, we certainly expect this to go on a little while.
