Seth Meyers ‘bans’ Donald Trump from any ‘Late Night’ appearances
Typically when you look at late-night TV shows and their relationship to one Donald Trump, they will do almost anything and everything in order to ensure that he comes on the show and spouts off a few opinions. However, that is not the case for one “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
Following Trump’s decision to ban the Washington Post from many of his events, citing what he believed to be unfair comments, Meyers last night effectively banned Trump from being a guest on his show, citing his long history of comments, in particular many towards Muslims that he has made throughout his campaign, especially following the horrific attack in Orlando over the weekend:
“To be clear, this is bigotry, plain and simple. To claim that any group of people, immigrants or anyone else, has anything in common with a terrorist murderer simply based on their ethnic background or religion [happens to be both] dangerous and wrong.”
We should include in here that we’re not altogether certain that Trump was planning on attending a taping as a guest in the first place, but this is still a bold move by Seth given that the strategy of many other late-night hosts over time has been to strongly engage him on various topics. The only one who has really been immune to that over time has been John Oliver, whose blistering attack on him on “Last Week Tonight” earlier this year proved to be one of the most-watched videos of the year from any late-night show.
