‘The Good Wife’ spin-off: Robert and Michelle King on bringing Christine Baranksi, Cush Jumbo on board
Even though the end of “The Good Wife” may be upon us after what was a really tremendous run on TV, we know already that the series has not officially shut down shop completely. There is a spin-off that will be coming to CBS All Access at some point in the new year, and both Christine Baranski (Diane) and Cush Jumbo (Luca) are both on board. It’s possible that some other familiar faces could end up joining them on the show, but that is not entirely clear just yet.
So how where original show creators Robert and Michelle King able to convince these two to be a part of this? Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting the new series “BrianDead,” Robert made it clear that a part of this for Christine had to with continuing that thirst for playing this character:
“[Christine] didn’t seem to be done with it … We approached her before Good Wife was over, like while we were shooting the 18th or 19th episode. We said, ‘There’s a chance this might come down. We don’t even know how many episodes it will be, but would you be interested in continuing Diane Lockhart?’”
When it comes to Jumbo, Michelle claims that this came about more as a result of the character’s instant popularity, and eventually an opening that came about. They realized that she had other commitments in the UK, but it all seems to be worked out now.
While the Kings will not be showrunning the spin-off, rest assured that they will still be executive producers and have a big say in much of what happens.
